Memorable Moments in the Life of the LA Lakers

Basketball fans, especially NBA fans all over the world either love or hate the LA Lakers. Most of us have witnessed most of the great moments of LA history right in our own living rooms if not in the game arena itself where many championship streaks were achieved and game winning clutch shots that have left us on the edge of our seats. There have been players in the LA Lakers teams throughout the years that have etched their names in the annals of the sports. LA Lakers, with their famous purple and gold uniforms have entertained us, made up jump for joy, made us cry, and made many memorable moments that we can always remember with warmth in our hearts.

Below are just a few of the many memorable moments in the life of the LA Lakers. For LA fans out there, both in years past up to the present, these moments will forever be remembered with fondness.

The Lakers got their name from the many lakes of Minnesota. The LA Lakers was born in 1960 when they relocated the LA from Minnesota and this became the move in history that would forever change the game of basketball. The LA Lakers following is nothing that the NBA had ever seen before.

The next best moment for the Lakers was when Jerry Buss bought the team in 1979 and instilled new skill sets to the team. The height of this ownership was the drafting of Magic Johnson, who was very instrumental in making the LA Lakers a force to be reckoned with in the court.

Memorable moments does not only include the victories and the greatness, but also the disappointments and failures. In 1991 Magic Johnson confessed to having HIV and retired from the team to the worlds utter shock. Without Magic, the team performance declines in the following years.

Fresh out of high school, one of the greatest players in NBA history, Kobe Bryant, was drafted in 1996. He was traded to the Lakers after being the 13th pick for the Charlotte Hornets who got Vlade Divac instead. This trade would change the history of the LA Lakers and the whole NBA as well.

The one-two punch Kobe- Shaq team was one of the greatest in the NBA. Shaq signed up with the LA Lakers in 1996 after a few years stint with the Orlando Magic. From 2000 to 2002, the Kobe-Shaq team would terrorize other NBA teams for a 3-peat championship.

One of the greatest Kobe Bryant moments for the LA Lakers came in 2006 when he scored 81 points in a single game against the Toronto Raptors.

You can also name their 2009 and 2010 crowns as memorable moments, Kobes injury and retirement, and the coming of LeBron James.
